Surface Tension

by Cynthia Yatchman

"Surface Tension" is a very small piece about 6” square and done on yupo paper, which is a very slick vellum like paper - it has the feature of letting the paint slide and move easily rather than being readily absorbed. The alcohol inks I used are applied with a brush and eye dropper, I love their vibrant colors and the way they move on the yupo paper, a blow dryer can be used to help move the paint and a squirt of alcohol will react with the paint in interesting ways - this piece was completed during the summer months and is reminiscent of summer wading and swimming for me.

“Wedded" is 24” square painting done on paper using latex house paints - I find this paint to be extra “wet”, stringy and works beautifully on paper, which is then mounted on board. This piece is an almost abstract floral that speaks to our human connection to nature.

Everything's going to be alright

"Everything’s Going To Be Alright" is another small painting 6” square done with acrylic paints on paper and then mounted on board. It is part of a small series that simply looks at the positivity in life.
